I've read that thread and followed its advice. It is what got me to  
the point of see the boot messages and being able to log in.

Since I'm able to log in and see some of the log in messages I'm  
fairly certain that the inittab entries are correct otherwise I  
wouldn't be able to get that far.

What is strange is why the communication stops midway through.
