As a policy matter, no one should ever delete particular records from the IPMI
SEL. It is extremely bad practice to remove events from the history that may
be needed to diagnose a problem later.

Which is also why the SEL should seldom be cleared and should be saved
somewhere before it is cleared, except in the case where it is leaving factory
test, before it goes into service.

So, don't do that. J

Hi Nicolas,

Issue 'ipmitool sel info'.

'Delete' should be listed as Supported Cmds.

My guess would be Delete SEL Entry command is not supported (which is optional).

In that case, you may have the only option as clearing the entire SEL.

Objet : some problem with the argument "delete" on ipmitool
Importance : Haute

Good evening ipmitool-devel,

I present myself I am Nicolas DLUBAK an administrator system and network for
the company PHOTOBOX.

At the moment I work on the project to monitor the status hardware on each
server. In this project I use the soft ipmitool (ipmitool version 1.8.8) in the
script.

On this script I need to clean just a line on the event log below.

Here is an example:

[#####]# ipmitool -c -I lan -H ipaddress -U login -P password sel list

1,Event Logging Disabled #0x72,Log area reset/cleared,Asserted

2,Pre-Init Time-stamp,,Power Supply #0x74,Redundancy Lost

3,Pre-Init Time-stamp,,Power Supply #0x65,Failure detected,Asserted

4,Pre-Init Time-stamp,,Power Supply #0x65,Power Supply AC lost,Asserted

And when I want to delete a line on this sel list it doesn't work at all.

[#####]# ipmitool -c -I lan -H ipaddress -U login -P password sel delete 3

Unable to delete entry 3: Invalid command

So of course I already looking for a solution by myself but I did not find
anything on INTERNET and also with my best colleague.

I will on top appreciate really your assistance because I cannot what make, and
it is a very important project for me and it is also a big issue for
infrastructure.

Thanks again in advance for your future help.

Best Regards
