Most likely HPs fault. There are a lot of poorly designed SDRs.
While not specific to IPMITool, we have attempted to document some of
the inconsistent practices in reading sensors.

As far as bridging. You have just one level and it can go deeper. Each
bridge looses bytes in the IPMI message until the message can't contain
number of bytes necessary.
