To complicate things regarding the IPMI GUID more: Microsoft SCVMM (System Center Virtual Machine Manager) - if I recall correctly - expects the binary output of the IPMI Get System GUID in (native RFC4122???) format for technical reasons unknown to me. This is used for bare metal server discovery and deployment.
That's why we ended up making this configurable in our BMC's. The user can select between IPMI compatibility and SCVMM/SMBIOS 2.6 compatibility and the binary response of the Get System GUID is reversed or not. Other BMC vendors might have different OEM specific solutions for this. Hi all! I'd like to invite anyone using BMC GUIDs to look at https://github.com/ipmitool/ipmitool/issues/25 and comment there. WBR, Alexander.
