To complicate things regarding the IPMI GUID more:
Microsoft SCVMM (System Center Virtual Machine Manager) - if I recall 
correctly - expects the binary output of the IPMI Get System GUID in (native 
RFC4122???) format for technical reasons unknown to me. This is used for bare 
metal server discovery and deployment.

That's why we ended up making this configurable in our BMC's. The user can 
select between IPMI compatibility and SCVMM/SMBIOS 2.6 compatibility and the 
binary response of the Get System GUID is reversed or not. Other BMC vendors 
might have different OEM specific solutions for this.
