I am a student from Cheltenham and Gloucester College of
HE and am currently in the last year of my degree with honours in computing. I
am studying when IPV6 will be introduced and some of the issues surrounding the
implementation for my dissertation. This project will involve 20% of my final
year mark, and I am hoping you would spend 10 minutes filling out the following
questionnaire to aid me in my study. Any replies you give will be gratefully
received. I have sent this questionnaire in HTML format so if you can only see a
jumbled mass of code or you cannot see a submit button at the bottom please
navigate to http://mmprj01.chelt.ac.uk/upload/mainngtrans.htm. Please pass this
e-mail on to all relevant contacts or departments. Please spare a few minutes of your time filling out this questionnaire. Many Thanks, Ian Nice C&GCHE
Q1, When do you think IPV6 will finally be ratified as a standard?
Q2, Are you aware of the progress of hardware developments for IPV6
implementation?
If you answered 'yes' to question 2 please continue to question 3 otherwise please proceed to question 4 Q3, how close are we to being ready?
Please comment further on the types of technology. Q4, Are you aware of the progress of software developments for IPV6
implementation?
If you answered 'yes' to question 4 please continue to question 5 otherwise please proceed to question 6 Q5, how close are we to being ready?
Please comment futher on the types of technology. Q6, Chris Lee in a recent article in IT Week (8th Jan 2001) entitled 'ITU
draws up 3G roadmap' quoted that some 3G [mobile phone service that will use
IPV6] "...should be available in the first half of 2002.". As members of IPNGWG
are you happy that IPV6 infrastructure devices will be available to support
these devices by this time? Q7, In the same article Chris Lee quotes analysis firm 'Analysys'
predicting "...3G services will have 480 million subscribers worldwide by 2006."
Do you think that the introduction of the IPV6 dependant technology might clear
up the issue of motivation to upgrade? As Chris Lewis put it in 'Cisco TCP/IP
Routing Professional Reference' "For most private networks, the benefits of
upgrading are not yet clear" Would you like to comment on this? Q8, In you view, what will be the motivation for ISP's and organisations
to change fully functional IPV4 implementations? Q9,Are you aware of new technologies that demand features of IPV6 that
IPV4 does not offer? Q10, Are you aware of any new technologies that are IPV6 enabled
only? Q11, Do you have any further comments you wish to make? Q12, If I have any question regarding your replies may I contact you
again?
Q13, Would you like to receive a copy of the finished report?
