Hi,

I have a doubt regarding the way UDP works in IPv6. It would be of
great help if someone could throw some light on it.

In IPv6 only the source node and the Destination handle fragementation of
the packet, if required. No routers on the way fragement as was done in IPv4.
I guess, mostly fragementation would be required for TCP packets.

My question is/are : Is fragementation done when sending a UDP packet also and
If yes how often does it happen that UDP packet is fragement?. I feel it would
be rare(??).

Fragementation makes sense when you are sending a TCP packet because
you know what path the packets will take and you can do a MTU. In UDP , I believe,
there is no definite known path a packet will take. Two UDP packets sent from the
same source node under same conditions might take different paths... then how
can we decide what size a UDP packet should be??

Thanks ,
K K Mohan
