If users use a field and expect it not to change, then carriers (ISPs?)
have to take note of that. In IPv6++, every bit in the 40 byte header
is used. The 20 bits that were not defined, have a 4-bit length field
and a 16-bit value. There are also 16 other bytes for data. Small
packets, such as the common ping, fit totally in the header. Add an
IPv4 Routing Header in the front (where it belongs), and use all of
the bits in that 20 byte data structure and call it a day. Why would
carriers change those 60 bytes ?
