Hey all, we just published a new version of the IKEv2 extension for ESP Header Compression. https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension-01
We included the comments we received, including the negotiation the new IPsec modes "Compressed Transport" and "Compressed Tunnel", which are used to indicate the usage of EHC on a per-SA-basis. We would like to know whether the WG prefers to negotiate this modes explicitly with a new Notify Payload USE_COMPRESSED_MODE (as it is currently in the draft in Section 5.1) or if the EHC_STRATEGY_SUPPORTED Notify Payload (which we use to negotiate the compression context) is significant enough to agree on the new modes (see Section 5.2 in the draft). This would allow us to remove the explicit negotiation with the USE_COMPRESSED_MODE Notify Payload. Any opinion on that is more than welcome. Any other comments on the draft are of course very appreciated as well! Name: draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension Revision: 01 Title: Internet Key Exchange version 2 (IKEv2) extension for the ESP Header Compression (EHC) Strategy Document date: 2018-06-25 Group: Individual Submission Pages: 13 URL: https://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension-01.txt Status: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension/ Htmlized: https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension-01 Htmlized: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension Diff: https://www.ietf.org/rfcdiff?url2=draft-mglt-ipsecme-ikev2-diet-esp-extension-01 Abstract: ESP Header Compression (EHC) reduces the ESP overhead by compressing ESP fields. Compression results from a coordination of various EHC Rules designed as EHC Strategies. An EHC Strategy may require to be configured with some configuration parameters. When a Security Association (SA) is enabling EHC, the two peers need to agree which EHC Strategy is applied as well as its associated configuration parameters. This document describes an extension of IKEv2 that enables two peers to agree on a specific EHC Strategy as well as its associated configuration parameters. Please note that it may take a couple of minutes from the time of submission until the htmlized version and diff are available at tools.ietf.org.
