Well I found out that if you do [EMAIL PROTECTED] it pegs and if you do
[EMAIL PROTECTED] it logs on fine.

So I see now it does NT Auth, but do you have to manually type in each name
into the contact list? I see where you can restrict it to IP but can you
restrict it by groups?

Hi Tony -

I'm not sure if you've solved your problem, but I thought I'd throw out
what I've implemented.

I have two domains on my network - let's call them Domain1 (authentication
domain) and Domain2 (domain where IIM is installed). Domain2 trusts users
from Domain1, provided they have authenticated of course. Domain1,
however, does not trust Domain2.. Both domain controllers for each domain
are running Windows NT.

Under the IPSwitch IM Server manager, I have my authentication database set
to "WindowsNT" and under the "Configure" option, I've set the domain I'm
authenticating to as Domain1 and the machine name as Domain1-PDC. That's
it. When I install the client on the workstation, I log in using the same
username/password I use to log onto our network.

I have seen the client peg the CPU on the client machine when trying to use
a client incompatible with the server version. Note that with the
evaluation version, there is a 1.01 upgrade (if they haven't updated the
initial demo version yet) that I strongly suggest installing. When you
install a new server version, a new client version is generated in the
installation directory on the server. Use that client to then upgrade your
workstation.

Hope that helps.

More Info

I logged in as [EMAIL PROTECTED] (the server that has IIM installed) and
after
about 15 seconds it seems to have logged on but the systray icon says
Status: State Unknown and the client will not launch. It is really
hammering
the client.

On the server I can see that I am connected even thought it seems to me the
way I logged in was wrong.

Subject: [IpswitchIM_Forum] Failed to connect to: domain controller

I am looking at the eval and set the Auth database to Windows NT. On the
client side I am getting the error
Failed to connect to (IP of a DC on the network) on port 5177. The IP of
the
DC is not the DC I placed in Machine Name of Domain Controller which really
does not have me worried. This is a local area network and not going
through
a firewall.

Also there are no entries in the PCL for the domain.

Ideas??

Thanks
Tony
