I am running the IPSwitch IM server on a Proliant 5500 running Windows 2000 with three (3) 550MHz processors and 512MB RAM.  There are anywhere from 80 to 100 users concurrently logged onto the IM service using Windows authentication.  This server also serves up our corporate Intranet as well as generating WebTrends reports.  At the moment, the server is running at about 10% utilization and I've seen it bounce to about 60% when things are busy.

This is a server that I simply do not touch.  It sits there and runs.  I've received no ill feedback about performance of the Intranet site or of the IM service.  Of course, I'm not running several thousand users at a time, so this isn't much of a comparison I'd think.

Good luck!
