Hi, i've seen that the vmxnet3 driver was added last January.
Like all other drivers it does use polling and disables interrupts. The problem is that while on a physical machine polling continuously at boot time doesn't take resources away from anyone else, on a virtual machine sitting on a host that is oversubscribed w.r.t. CPU, polling will take resources away from the other VMs sitting on the same host.
