Perhaps you'd be interested in a disk-based boot-loader, such as SYSLINUX.
iPXE is really about network-booting. iPXE doesn't have support for
disk-based filesystems or partitions as far as I know, except for some El
Torito support for bootable optical discs. - Shao

Subject: [ipxe-devel] way to tell kernel and image from partition

Is there a way I can tell ipxe to boot from specific partition.
The idea is to have a bootable partition on a USB, with ipxe.lkrn in it.

Then from an embeded ipxe script we will decide where (which other
partition in the USB) have the kernel and img files, load them and boot

Is it possible at all?

Regards
