I just got back from wallyworld and was looking at the TVs . YES they do have
standard defination TVs out now with the digital tuners (also analog too).
Also converters are supposed to be coming on the market before the analog drop
dead date that will allow existing analog TVs to continue receiving OTA signals
by converting the digital signal to analog .

Much better Pacific conditions this morning, with strong hets on many
channels, and audio on 8 MW freqs. Far East Russian LWBC was exceptional,
with 153 and 189 giving true armchair-level reception (9/10 rating) for
about 40 minutes. I was still listening at 1500 utc when the time pips were
given and all the stations abruptly left the air without anything else
transmitted. (PAL says 1600 signoff, but perhaps they're using daylight
savings time now.) It's been a long time since I had them in so strong, and
lasting so long.

Hets on almost every split when I dropped off a visitor at the airport at
1230UT (0530 PT).
On returning home, the upper end of the dial had weakened considerably, but
HLAZ-1566 was
still hanging in there. Also, audio on 594, 648, 693, 774, and 828. I swear 648
was JJ, but I don't
see a likely target. Are there any higher-powered JJs on 648? Soft-spoken
female announcer in Japanese at 1340.

774 was once again strongest (completely listenable) at 1415UT; all signals
gone by 1500.

Dave:

Could it have been Korean? The Russian (transmitting VOA in Korean
1300-1400) is a pretty regular visitor.

Up for a short spot 0720-0735 PDT today. JOUB-774 in easily above high
noise level but only other TPs with audio were 657 & 1566 and those just
barely, really not decipherable (as to language etc)....Congrats to the
rest of you leftcoasters for making this an enjoyable season so far.
Noted KSTE-650 in Sacto already on day power at 0720 & Calgary-1060 was
still in with a very readable signal at 0735. Sorry, you International
dxers, it's your turn to convert. Basically I'm a domestic dxer and
don't really cotton to this UTC bit :-)....

Definitely could have been. It wasn't // to 594, 693, or 774 (which I do know
were Japanese) so it's quite possible.

Thanks for the pointer!

Greetings,

I tuning across the dial today, I found KKPZ 1330 Portland now IBOC as
predicted. Anyway, it is not much of an issue here and I thought. The
noise is there, but a bit of adjusting of the passband tuning I can get
rid of 90% of it no matter what antenna I am using. Of course it is
stronger on the 1500' Eastern beverage, but not much of a big issue. KEX
is much more of an issue. Off the 45' vertical KXRO 1320 is totally in
the clear. Now if all IBOC was this poor, it would be easier to get
around! But I am sure as skip angles vary and all their IBOC noise will
vary too.

Received this note today from Steven Dow, the owner of KEIN 1310khz in Great
Falls, Montana regarding
the upcoming test on November 18-19th. For listeners who will be targeting
KEIN 1310khz, this
is important stuff.

Again, our thanks to Steve Dow for this test!

======================================================

Hello Les:

I will be participating in the DX test, however, during testing of the audio
chain during the two hour period I will have normal programming (nostalgia
music) alternating with the morse ID's and test tones. KEIN has a 5/8 wave
antenna so the sky wave tends to favor the long path. Best of luck with the
test!
