Even with 100 watts, a low frequency, and a Valcom antenna that is still a great catch. I believe this is the most powerful TIS in the US.
LAX uses the same model Valcom antenna that the 530 TIS here in Denver uses. For some reason the FCC calculated the Denver station to have a X4 gain factor. The transmitter is 10 watts but the ERP is 40 watts. If that factor is accurate, the LAX TIS should have an ERP equivalent to 400 watts.
