Michael Stipe is actually an Army brat and spent time all over the
place. He was born in Decatur. You might be thinking of Bill Berry, the
former drummer of REM, who lived in Macon and went to high school there with
Mike Mills, the bassist.
Bill acutally lives just down the road from us in Watkinsville.

Was definitely overlapping here, as 1215 was still there at the time,
never having developed beyond a carrier, and was still looping towards
Europe.
Made the mistake of stopping by the radio room after a middle of the
night pit stop...pretty darn lively around 1030UT, lots of TP audio,
mostly JJ, and mostly fighting with splatter, but the occasional
Chinese in there too.
