With the solar numbers so good for a while, I actually set the
alarm. Originally, I was going to roll out at 4AM.... thankfully,
calmer heads prevailed and I set it for 5:00 AM, so I was at the dial
2 hours before dawn. Dawn is now about 1510 UTC. The early period
was very disappointing, with only 774 in listenable audio!!!! There
were a handful of other stations putting in threshold audio and a
decent number of hets, concentrated on the lower band. On the other
hand, Long Wave was one of the best of the season, with five of the
Rossii transmitters putting in at least fair level audio: 153, 180,
189, 234 and 279. In a real change, 189 was best.... usually its
either 153 or 279 or both.

Happily, there was a very strong dawn enhancement this morning, well
underway at first light, at its peak at local dawn and lasting with
plenty of DX going still 30 minutes after dawn. Shades of late
September! Both the low and high band were doing well, though almost
everything was "the usual North Asian suspects." There were a
number of the CNR1 and, Patrick, probable Heillongjiang was on
621. For a bit, I thought 612 was DU late in the enhancement, but as
it peaked, it was clearly NHK1, Fukuoka. In other news, the North
Koreans seem to have 873 fixed, again.... It was dominating Kumamoto.
I wonder how long it will last this time.

Otherwise, things were just an average/good late September Asian
morning. I'm really going to miss this..... When we get to Oklahoma,
being unmoved by domestic DXing, unfortunately, I'll have to go back
to reading the e-New York Times when my aging bladder calls at or
just before dawn. POOOO!
