I believe there is a connector that supplies the voltage to the display LEDs. I recall reading that sometimes this connector can become oxidized, and produce the result that you are experiencing. I think it's a simple fix that you should be able to manage on your own. I'll see if I can find more specific info from the Drake Yahoo Group. Bill Frost at Drake is also an excellent resource, and should be able to help you out. Doesn't sound too serious to me...
