Cool pix. Yes, I do remember the old UPI machines. I used one at KVAS
Astoria was years. The old "rip and read". Those things were so noisy
has they had to be in a separate room (Unless you wanted the sound
effects in going into the news). Ah, the good old days.
The 833 tubes...I think I still have one somewhere I have had for 40
years since I was a teenager. I remember trying is out for a night
light. The filiment alone ran something like 5 Volts at 5 Amps! It would
get hot enough to fry an egg on it. So that did not work out well for a
lamp. hi.
I believe KVAS used to have a 1937 Raytheon 1KW transmitter and the
250w (Night power in those days) was a 1950 GE. Those are all gone and
the station in solidstate now.
