Walt, In 2005 a lightening strike hit a roof on a house on Alameda in Astoria, 8 miles away. It burned the house badly. During the same time my control on the SW EWE burned up too. I checked it out and the carbon fell apart. I had to replace it. Lightening does hit here, but it is rare.
