Fred! I've extremely fond memories of Sid, for many of the same reasons you stated. When I was 16 or 17 around 1950-1951 I was really a rabid dxer. After finding out about the National Radio Club in 1950 I subscribed and began regular correspondence with at least 2 dxers, Sid Rosenbaum & Len Kruse of Dubuque, Iowa. Sid was a wonderful correspondent & a big help over the next few years and our relationship was heightened when he hosted the 1953 NRC Convention in Wheeling. A non-dxer friend of mine & I drove from Omaha to Wheeling, thru Union City TN & Hazard KY where he had pitched minor league ball during the baseball season...Sid was a most gracious host. Unfortunately after that my dxing days were curtailed, mostly by the USAF, but girls & nightlife also had a bit to do with it. Somewhere in the mists of my memory I recall receiving news of Sid's passing.
Oh, he was a darn good dxer as well.
