If Iblock sticks, the vast majority of AM stations will go under, maybe with
50 left in the US and we all know who those will be: the big boys, the 50 KW
stations. This is of course what they want, they are afraid of the internet
stealing their listeners away, so to keep a decent share of the ever
dwindling amount of listeners, they want to wipe out 99% of the rest. AM
radio will be like TV was 50 years ago, three stations in every city in
wonderful IBUZZ.
The only thing I wonder is if the FCC is really that cowed at this point
that they would allow an obviously suicidal ¿technology? like Iblock to
completely ruin the AM spectrum to allow the big bucks stations to keep on
making their big bucks. If they ignore the obvious and allow this to happen
it will be a sad day in radio history, the beginning of the end. Dr. Z is
correct, it is the big bucks broadcasters and Inequity itself who are to
blame and it is all for greed nothing else, it certainly isn't for the good
of the public which I assumed was a big part of the reason for the FCC's
existence, so the whole spectrum could coexist peacefully. Patrick is also
correct everything he predicts will happen. I wonder why the small AMer's of
which there are many more total than there are Big Buck Broadcasters don't
get together and petition the FCC and enlighten them to what will happen?

As we all have said before, if night IBOC gets widespread, we can say
goodbye to long range reception. It will be noise from end to end. Our
only options will be to move. Few of us will do that. I don't expect us
to move to Kauai of Northern Alaska. hi. But there is always longwave,
shortwave, TV DX. But this will totally kill the AM band. More people
will be listening to radio on the internet. IBOC is a total waste of
spectrum and it useless as it has such poor coverage. After night IBOC
gets implimented, why even continue with analog? The band will be full
of noise that in most cases the analog signal will not have a prayer to
make it out 50 miles. So if IBOC does stick, within a few years, most
everything left on AM with be IBOC only I would presume. At least it
looks like it would be pointing that way. But time will tell.
