How about using one of the FM modulators such as the XM and Sirius sets use? Then just put an FM radio next to the computer. Plug headphones into that, if needed. That way no batteries would be needed. Just a small 12v power supply on the radio end. Those things are widely available, often with a 1/8" mini jack input. Fairly cheap, too. You no doubt have an FM radio kicking around for the computer end.
