Doug,
In the ratings game they take a "sampling" of the possible listeners. Some use phones, some questionaires, and the like. This was a sampling of about 300+ in Clatsop & Tillamook Counties. Typical for our area. It is a small company, Eastlan Resources. I have never been a big believer in ratings as, you never know for sure where they come from in reality. If you ask the people on one side of town what station they listen to, it may be Station A, the other side of town Station B may be it. KMUN does have an advantage over the other stations as they have translators all over, so there is a "local" signal in the two countries in most areas. I have always wondered if "samplings" were that good. But i guess if you are higher in the ratings, it may mean more in advertising. But alot also has to do with the age of the listeners. A NOS station may be number one, that does not mean the station will make a lot more money, as older people generally do not buy new stuff all of the time like young people do. Of course in the case of KMUN, being listener supported, there is not advertising to be concerned about. KAST is still number one as a commercial station. But KMUN does have a lot of support. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KAVT Reception Manager _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
