I'm sure for conventional DX, the bookend months of the DX season might well be best. My goal on this is to see if the greyline experience can carry over to long-range DX. The automated recordings are no effort to do, and the review of them is easy. That's done while I'm doing something else on the computer. Sometimes I listen several times when something interesting is in there. About all I've had this year so far is WSB and what I believe is Cuba. Had a wobbler there for a day or two. I'm a good two weeks behind on listening. I do remember getting some interesting beacon catches by greyline. Dawn DX on LW can be interesting. In the late 70's I used to do automated DX with a Sony reel to reel and an appliance timer. Looked on 1070 for a long time for KNX, and on 600 for KSJB. Got neither. I think I got about every other 1070 station east of the Mississippi River, and more than a few on 600 including WTAC. I also tried 1590 for a while after the WQQW sign-off. Looking for the station in Washington state. No luck. One of these days I'll have to try 960 to see if Calgary squeaks through. I don't thing they have moved to FM yet. Automated, repetitive recordings have the advantage of simply giving a better chance of hearing the desired station. I think it was Woody Allen that said that 95% of success in life is simply showing up. I think I have a good chance of hearing KFQD eventually. Some combination of a propagational enhancement will happen for them in conjunction with a fade by WSB and others. The June dawn timing is simply my analysis of what may be the best time to do it. Greyline can work. I take Kaz's thoughts seriously. Given the constant sun over the pole region, it may well kill things by aurora zone. But, some day luck may cooperate and activity will drop. I want to be there when it does. I am surprised I've heard very little beyond the two stations I mentioned. It's not for a lack of possible targets.
