Very possible that you could have heard CFAR.  Even though they have only 
1kw night power, it is non-directional.  Sorry I can't help you with the 
Jazz part.

They are a very tough catch even here in the midwest.  As Don Kaskey noted, 
he had heard then only once from his Iowa location.  Here in N.E. MN I have 
heard them only 3 or 4 times in 40 years of DXing from this location.  Last 
time I heard them was a few years ago.  I caught them coming out of 
Broadcast News and an I.D. of "CJ-1240 & CFAR-590."  They are part of 
"Arctic Radio" which also includes CHTM-610 Thompson, MB.  CJ-1240 [I forgot 
to mention] is CJAR-1240 The Pas, MB.  I have never heard any of these at 
night.  Always on SRS in the dead of winter.

Now if I could just log CHFC-1230 Churchill--that would finish off MB for 
me.

These dreams must be caused by my blood pressure meds.
