I have this radio and am amazed. Numerous TAs from Europe, Africa & Middle
East, and carriers from Asia & DUs, just using a small loop. It won't bankrupt
anyone on batteries. Battery life depends on backlight use & preamp ("DX") use,
but can be up to 80 hours on alkalines (4 D cells).
What I'm using is high capacity plain green NiMH batteries. Got a great deal
on them on eBay, direct from China. A recharger is about $20. 73, George S., MN

Colin,
Thanks for the detailed review. I think I'll keep my old 2010! ;)
A positive attribute of the old Sony is battery longevity. It has suprised
me how long they last compared with my DX398 which is a notorious battery
muncher. What is the battery life with the E1?
