When I worked at Ford Motor Company's distribution center in Portland, the only stations that could be heard were FM. Even with all 25 shipping dock doors open, a GE Super Radio couldn't pick up AM stations 20' from the dock doors. FM stations could be heard quite well throughout the building with inexpensive radios. The building was only 10 miles from downtown Portland. KEX would run a message stating their signal sometimes doesn't make it into dowtown buildings, but that office workers could hear them via the internet.
When driving out to Seaside last month on HW 26 many Portland FM stations were heard while some of the AM stations dropped off. This was after going over the 1,500' coastal range.
