I'd be careful with that particular jump of logic, since the problem in 
this case (cuing talent in the field) isn't intrinsically an IBOC 
problem. There are a lot of reasons other than IBOC for stations these 
days to have some delay in their air chains - everything from profanity 
delays to digital studio/transmitter links. It's a good idea for ANY 
station using talent out of the studio on a regular basis to have a 
better means of cuing field talent that doesn't depend on a "live" 
over-the-air signal, IBOC or not.

As long as the talent isn't in the air, where cell phones don't work, 
the humble cell phone can carry out that task pretty well. When I was 
working in local TV news a few years ago, that's how we got the "IFB" 
audio feed in our ears back from the control room. And it's still pretty 
standard practice in radio, where as often as not we'll use the cell 
phone for both ends of the audio chain. It ain't pretty, but it gets the 
job done.
