As has been pointed out, lots of countries may have high conviction rates, but what separates them from our judicial system is that our citizens, chosen at random, stand between the government and the individual. While our jury system is often maligned by odd results in high profile cases, thousands of such proceedings take place weekly with hardly a ripple. The Sixth Amendment right to jury trial is one of our most important rights and protections from our own government's actual or perceived oppression. We'll see what shakes out very soon. There is not much heel dragging in the federal system. "Mind over matter"....
