It seems to me that if sets are available with HD for both AM and FM, and if the FM, as noted by several writers, is superior, then AM could simply go along for the ride and possibly result in more HD AM stations. However, it all gets back to what has been emphasized again and again: if the programming isn't there, then there's no reason to bother listening to AM regardless of the quality.
