Hello All,

As a result of Mesa Mike's superb narrow selectivity modification to
the Sony SRF-M37V digital Ultralight radio, there has been a recent surge in
interest regarding this crucial correction to the only real issue in SRF-M37V
performance. For owners of the SRF-M37V, this modification makes perfect
sense, assuming that a suitable filter can be obtained. For those who
currently
have no digital Ultralight, and desperately want a top-performing model which
is fully sensitive and selective enough for any Ultralight Mission, however,
there is a much better option than purchasing both an SRF-M37V and narrow
filter... simply purchase a Sangean DT-200VX digital radio, which already has
great sensitivity, good selectivity, and far greater performance in urban
areas.

The DT-200VX, thoroughly reviewed in the 2007 Shootout article in DXM
and on dxer.ca, is a superb digital radio which already is fully capable for
both domestic and transoceanic DX. It has great resistance to urban RF
problems (unlike the SRF-M37V), has 20 AM memories (unlike the SRF-M37V's 5
memories), and has superior FM-stereo reception and audio quality. Although
the
price is steeper than the SRF-M37V ($49.99 with free shipping at Amazon), it
is
undoubtedly much cheaper than purchasing both an SRF-M37V and narrow filter,
which would still leave you somewhat short of the DT-200VX's performance
level. Finally, despite some confusion about the 9 kHz split capability in
the
DT-200VX (because of an incredible omission in the operating manual), this
superb digital radio can not only tune in 9 kHz steps, but the process to
change from 9 to 10 kHz steps is also easier than that of the SRF-M37V.

Full details on both units can be obtained in the 2007 Shootout Review
on dxer.ca, the new "Worldwide Headquarters" of the Ultralight Revolution..

             73 and Good DX,
