Hello All,
The Florida eBay seller of the great Sony SRF-39FP prison radios, in an
admirable desire to provide exciting awards for our new Ultralight DX Awards
Program (but more likely because he was excited about receiving some serious
$$$), has agreed to sell me SRF-39FP's in serious quantity.
For those unfamiliar with this little jewel, it is an ancestor of the
SRF-59, with exactly the same electronic circuitry, but with one critical
ergonomic difference: a larger analog tuning thumb wheel, which makes it
significantly easier to tune in choice DX, especially at the high end of the
band.
The SRF-39FP also has a well-deserved reputation of arriving very sensitive
right out of the box, unlike the somewhat checkered QC record of its SRF-59
sibling. The Prison Radio is already a runaway hit with Ultralight Fanatics,
who can see all the internal circuitry as they log their TP's, TA's and other
shocking DX, feeling almost as close to the radio as does an extremely rare
alignment technician :>)
Unfortunately, judging from the number of emails received so far, there
appears to be WAY too much demand for these Prison Radios to satisfy
everybody in IRCA (or on the list relector) who wants one of these special
units.
The stock I have purchased is primarily for the new Ultralight DX Awards
program, and must be reserved for that very important purpose. However, in
order
to be fair, I will make every attempt to satisfy those DXers desperately
wanting ONE model (sorry, but two, three or more is impossible) on a first
come,
first served basis. Unfortunately, so many emails have already been received
that these few available units are already pretty much spoken for. However,
everyone will have an equal chance to win their own highly prized unit, as an
Ultralight DX Award. So don't lose hope... just give it your best shot, and
have fun either way.
The Florida seller has indicated that his entire stock of these radios
is almost exhausted, but the Ultralight Leader has been through enough real
estate transactions to understand a seller's tendency to hype up an artificial
shortage. If more SRF-39FP's still appear on eBay, it would not be
surprising in the least... so by all means keep checking the daily listings,
and you
may score big time, nailing down Prison Radios like the ultimate Ultralight
criminal just did.
