Russ, Because of its convenience features, the DT200VX is now my dog-walk DX machine. The speaker is a big plus for around the house when earbuds won't do. You can use your power button as a "backlight button". This doesn't solve the clock issue as OFF remains backlight for 4 seconds before indicating time, but OFF/ON instantly lights up freq. without having to tune up or down.
