I was in Greenwood today and decided to spin the dial on the car radio. WJES, Saluda South Carolina now on 1200kHz with 10KW Day, 6500 Critical and 4 Watts Non Directional (Used to be 350W Day only on 1190kHz). puts a very good signal into Greenwood and it is quite audible, with a slight bit of static in Abbeville.
WJES runs a Beach, Country & Oldies music format until 12noon when it simulcasts sister station WCRS-1450 for Rush Limbaugh from 12noon to 3pm. WCRS carries ABC's "Timeless Classics" format which 1450 AND 1200 continue with at 3pm. During the Rush Limbaugh show, any local liners "1450 WCRS Greenwood and 1200 WJES Saluda" or "1450 WCRS" were at very low levels against the rest of the programming. Rush Limbaught, ABC's Satelitte delivered music and local commercials were fine but the audio for the liners was very low. I prefer "Carolina Hits 1200" over Timeless Classics. On the way back to Abbeville, about halfway between the 1450 and 1590 (WABV) towers... of which each station has one and theyre about 18 1/1 miles apart... .WCRS 1450 appeared on 1230 VERY CLEARLY for at least 1 mile. Both WGCR 720 Pisgah Forest, North Carolina with 25KW Non Directional Day and WWOL 780 Forest City, North Carolina with 10KW Non Directional Day both put OK signals into Greenwood, both with preachers and such at 1:45 in the afternoon. WABV had a decent signal into the Western part of Greenwood today too! WKDK was listenable on the east side of Greenwood as well. -- Sincerely, Paul B.
