Have measured the current draw of my SRF-59 as being only about 20mA
or a bit less on AM, so the single AA cell should last well over 100  
hours
as Sony claims. Must be close to that now in fact on my first one, the
one which makes cracking noises as being tuned. On FM the current  
draw is
about 25 mA so expect about 100 hours of battery life from a fresh
alkaline cell rated at about 2500 mA hours.

Am how enjoying my second SRF-59 sans any cracking sounds provided  
gratis
by a not so secret program to provide them for Canadians (thanks Gary!)
And due to Gary's alignment skills, is much more sensitive than the  
first one-
can receive 10 kW Regina-620 on daytime groundwave here in Calgary  
(about 600 miles)
