Hi, Kevin.  Must have passed by your area on the way from Port Angeles to 
Seattle via the Bainbridge/Seattle ferry.
Lovely area for sure!  In my experience, even relatively short BOGs do 
surprisingly well, and are quite quiet at the same time.
For MW dxing, it seems to me that a 150' wire on the ground might indeed 
outperform the same length at a height
above the ground.  No harm in experimenting, I'd say.  I don't think I'd bother 
with a center fed antenna, but rather
try putting out two BOGs (and I'm using that term loosely) along the ground in 
opposite directions.  Initially I'd 
simply try them as is, and later, experiment with termination.  Also, you could 
try using the two with a phasing unit.
There's no end to the experimentation that we can do in this wonderful hobby of 
ours!  ......Walt (temporarily in
