Had a chance to play with this a bit this evening. Some comments first
- my unit has a 90-minute auto-shut-off, not 60 as noted in the 2007
Shootout. Also, the FM selectivity in a strong signal area such as this
is about what I'd have expected - it's pretty weak. Strong locals show
up 20 mHz away fairly regularly. And the TV audio section seems to have
overload FM audio on many of the frequencies where I have no local TV.
( The FM comments above will now prompt me to see how the FM on the
SRF-59 stacks up as I haven't yet checked that out ).
On AM, so far the sensitivity and nulling ability are only very
slightly less than those of the SRF-59, and in a number of cases equal.
Selectivity on AM seems a toss-up. I've managed to hear a number of
non-regular GY stations so far on both units in some rather quick
tests.
In terms of noise handling, both are quite affected by computer nooise
and other electrical noise such as nearby electric fences or
light-sensitive switches -- again not a surprise of small portables.
Bottom line, I'm pleased with them both - it was a good move to get
two, not just one. Now to find more time to play with them....
