Subject: Re: [IRCA] Sony SRF-M97 Ultralight Radio.. Not for Serious AM DX!

Hello Tim,

The Sony SRF-M97 is not really capable of much AM-DX performance, so
you may be disappointed in trying for KMOX at 120 miles. That is pretty
much
beyond the daytime DX range here, using the SRF-M97's microscopic (less
than 1
inch) loopstick antenna.

The fit and finish are decent, however, and if you just want to listen

to FM stereo from a very small package, this radio will not disappoint you.

It has a very cool silver-colored digital readout on a black background,
unique among Ultralight digital radios.

For AM reception, however, this is probably the most overpriced radio
imaginable. The radio not only has limited sensitivity, but it only tunes
up
to 1610 kHz. The Amazon price, at over $160, is especially comical. If
you
decide to get one, you should purchase from the eBay vendor in Hong Kong
(who
at least will give you a positive feedback, while overcharging you).

    73, Gary DeBock
