Gil, Thanks for the advice. Here on the coast, we are not talking about a limb landing on the wire. It is the whole tree that have been coming down with our stors. The one in December has gusts of 143 MPH and sustained gusts of 128 MPH. Thousands of trees were lost in the NW. I live in a very tough climate for elevated wires, especially long hauls between supports. The reason I do like the gun as it does heat up immediately as as I go along resplicing the beverage running 1500' I don't have a constantly hot iron to deal with. My little butane iron works great in the Summer with the outside temp in the 60s/70s, but it is tough in the Winter with the 40s and a 30 MPH wnd blowing often, living on the coast. One good thing about repairing the wires in the Winter/Spring as it is so wet that starting a fire is not an issue. I avoid doing any wor when we have a East wind in the dry Fall (If we have one. Last year we didn't.).
