Ray,
I got to think of your neuropathy issues and use of the 59. The 39 is a
better choice, but the 59 can be modified several ways to make it tune
easier.
One way would involve removing the thumb wheel and dial indicator strip and
drilling a hole in the front case where the thumb wheel sits in a recess. A
shaft extender and knob from ebay ($1.97) would screw fit to the variable
capacitor and you would have an external knob for tuning. You could grasp
it between your thumb and forefinger if that would work for you. You'd have
to improvise a scale for approximate station location. I'll try this and
see if I can get some photos up at www.dxer.ca
Another would be to loosen the fit of the thumbwheel in the front case
recess which holds the thumbwheel against the capacitor.
