The latest issue of QST has a review of the new Elecraft K3 DSP receiver. The specs on it are nothing less than amazing in terms of resistance to overload and the like.
A quote: "Overall receiver performance is right up there with the best radios the lab has ever measured, and this is the first receiver we've tested with better than 100db IMD dynamic range at the close signal spacings." Considering the mega-dollar radios that have gone through the ARRL lab, that's quite a statement. Has anyone had their hands on one of these? They do include a transmit ability of 10 or 100 watts. Price for the lowest price "kit" 10w version is shown to be about $1400. That's the same as the older Drake R7A was in the 80's. There are some options, but these can be added in Chinese menu fashion. I say "kit" because assembly apparently requires only plugging in the modules and turning a screwdriver. No soldering. Heathkit fans can let out that sigh of disappointment now... I'm still curious if anyone has ever done BCB DX with an ICOM IC-7000 rig.
