Is that when the Lowest Useable Frequency (LUF) would come into play?
Many of us VHF-DX'ers always talk about the MUF, I have seen LUF
somewhere (maybe on the General exam question pool).  I guess that the
LUF would be above the MW band in a case like that.  Do they map LUF
like they do MUF?

I've noticed the same thing as Powell.  When solar activity was VERY 
high, I've had moments when  all I can hear are groundwave signals and 
maybe one or two strong Californians.  It was like having my locals and 
semi-locals using  night facilities during the day (sort of the opposite

of *cheating*).
