The station has been on the skids for many years. They were a 5 KW daytimer for years on 1470 under the call KRAF. Later the changed to KDUN and then moved to 1030 with 10,000/630. But according to their GM at the time, they could not get into Coos Bay/North Bend 20 miles to the South or Florence 25 miles to the North because of the poor powelines in the area. The noise level wiped them out with 10 KW. Even with the 50KW days, the noise level was still an issue in areas. Apparently their bottomline has been so tight, that the difference between running 50KW and 10KW made that much difference in their power bill. Reedsport has 5500 people, but has a lot on competition from FMers in Florence and North Bend/Coos Bay. The AM in Raymond WA (KAPA 1340) went off years ago because of the same thing. Lots of FM to listen to. I hope the new owners can make it. KDUN does put in a decent signal up here days and even fair at night with 50,000/630 at 200 air miles.
