Hello All,
On short notice, it was possible to book Room 10 at the Grayland Motel
for a one-night visit, hopefully with decent DU conditions in the morning.
Rumor has it that another well-known DXer is currently occupying Room 12, with
an impressive Wellbrook Array all set up. It should be interesting to
compare the performance of the latest stand-alone Ultralights (like the E100
with
the CFJ455K5 narrow filter and a 22.5" "slider" loopstick) with the
Wellbrook-connected model, although we all know which setup is preferable for
DX. The
30" loopstick ICF-2010 will also be taken along as "spotting receiver"
(perhaps a little overqualified for the job).
Some real progress is being made towards the goal of creating a
compact, effective DXpedition Ultralight, as evidenced by the reception of
five DU's
by the latest modified E100 on June 29-30 (during modest conditions).
Hopefully, DX conditions in the morning will allow further testing and
refinement
of this fascinating project. Thanks to Steve, Dennis, Bill, Nick and Walt
for the daily DU reports, which give helpful reference information to DXers at
the beach.
73, Gary DeBock
