There are way too many AM stations.  The newer -- most often lower power 
stations make as much noise as IBOC.  Combine all of the new "add on" Clear 
channel drop ins -- most with powers below 5 KW at night and even more below 1 
KW at night to low powered local channels.  All 107 AM channels now have more 
stations operating at night than there were 20, 30 and 40 years ago.  Most 
night time opertions are 1 KW or less and over half of the latest AM 
Applications are for night time power with only 250 watts.  It's not that such 
low power stations cause the noise -- as it is the total amount of signals on 
any given channel being 4 times the limit for good AM reception.  The AM bands 
needs to be cleaned up.  Reduce the number of stations and move them over to 
FM.
