Many of you know that I DX a lot in the car, even though I am now "in" on the ULR and C-ULR (cassette ULR) revolution. Last night it was the wife's turn to host her groups card night, so I made myself scarce and did some errands and such and after they were complete I found a quiet spot in a strip mall in the Indy suburb of Lawrence. I checked for anything out of the ordinary (hurricane Fay EAS, LSS skip and such) and found two stations going at it on 1020. I heard an ad for "Peoria" and knew that I had old friend WPEO (1 KW daytimer). They were easily overpowering KDKA and abruptly went into their signoff spiel right at 2100 EDT. They do NOT use the SSB as KDKA instantly popped up to a good level.
So, if you need WPEO try for them just short of 2100 EDT. On 1430 I heard a strong bluegrass / country station but the music may have been completely eclectic, instead of local WXNT. Is this Toronto? The area NE of Indy is where WXNT has a huge null as their figure-8 pattern (NNW-SSE) protects St. Louis and Toronto (somewhat). I drove 2 1/2 miles and WXNT was L&C. 1020 WPEO IL Peoria 8-20 2059 Good over KDKA w/local ad and s/off ann. No SSB.
