More and more people these days are simply shipping their luggage by UPS or FedEx. It ensures it won't be lost or damaged, and you can insure it. It completely avoids the TSA and their inconsistencies. When I went to Key West I shipped all my radio gear via UPS. Arrived fine and it was one less thing I had to lug out at the airport. I will ship everything when I travel next time. Only take a bare minimum carry-on. With airlines now charging for extra luggage, the cost isn't that bad either. Ship it early and you can see by the tracking info that it actually got there before you leave.
