Hi all: In case you run into the same problem, here is one I solved today.
I've been laboring for the past few weeks figuring out where the unearthly screeching is coming from that has rendered my LF Engineering H-900 whip unusable. I have it mounted on an unused satellite dish with a special four foot tall J-bracket, which passes my townhouse development's homeowner's association aesthetic requirements since it looks like an appendage to the satellite dish. Turns out that the townhouse which used to use the satellite dish has now once again hooked up their TV to the feed line to the dish, and in urban Seattle, she gets enough HDTV signal just from that. Alas, the digital converter box she purchased recently sends enough RF up the feed line to fry an egg. Fortunately, she is a wonderful neighbor, and is shifting over to rabbit ears or some other indoor antenna. So, I am sitting here once again listening to the entire spectrum of DX, just in time to relish the onslaught on transoceanics every morning.
