Robert - I've had a DT-400W for a couple of weeks now. As you said it is
extremely sensitive and nulls well but I too am disappointed in the
selectivity. Reasonably strong regionals (as far as 300 miles away)
sometimes spill over into the next frequency. I guess they decided to put
more effort ($$$$) into sensitivity than selectivity.
I have three fairly low powered locals a little more than a mile away and
they give it fits. I have two other ultralights; one is not worth mentioning
(it's a Sangean and is on the turkey list) and the other is a Sony SRF-M80V
I've had for a long time. I've never directly compared it to the DT-400W it
behaves very similarly. I will do a comparison soon and report on that both
here and on the Ultralights Yahoo Group. The only down side is that it will
not tune in 9 kHz. steps. It costs a lot less than the DT-400W and I think
it would be good for someone not needing 9 kHz. steps. Its successor, the
SRF-M85V, is on the turkey list.

Last night I took the Sangean pretty far away from four of my five locals.
What a difference.

Subject: [IRCA] My ULR DX Season has Started...2 NEW Ones at
Sunset!!!!!
To: [email protected]
Hi Guys:
Tonight I hunkered in for some SUNSET SKIP DXing with the Ultralight
Sangean DT-400W. This is the first time since the radio arrived that I
have
really sat down and looked around to see what it can do. So far...I am
quite happy with it. Logged 2 NEW Stations for the ULR Log...and 1 of
those
is NEW to the OVERALL Log. The Nulling Capabilites are good, it is very
sensitive.....but still has some selectivity problems...especially next to
adjacent frequencies. But hey..2 new ones in an hours listening is OK on
any radio!!
This brings my Ultralight Stations Heard Total up to ..............458
Stations.
Here's what I logged tonight.......
