Thanks for the tips!
The effect I wanted with phasing the // wires was when the back was phased,
so are the sides. It was very close, but not quite. So, some experimenting
will need to be done with wire lengths (and termination) to get it just
right for my QTH.
Possible future "experiments":
1. Terminate the shorter antenna.
2. Lengthen the longer antenna as you suggested.
3. Place the wires at right angles with the shorter antenna toward pest
stations.
4. Place the wires at 180 degrees with the shorter antenna terminated toward
pest stations.
